ABOUT ME

The two noodles in the photo are Sidney, my 5-year-old Whippet, and Fénix, my 8-year-old Spanish Galgo. They inspire me every single day, each in their own wonderfully unique way.

Hi 👋 I’m Rita, a soon-to-be certified dog trainer, HR manager, and people coach, with a soft spot for the long-nosed, long-legged, and often delightfully ridiculous creatures we call dogs.

I founded Mindful Hounds to offer personalized, force-free dog training that supports both dogs and the humans who love them. My approach blends behavioral science, empathy, and my background in coaching people through complex change. Because training dogs is just as much about guiding their humans.

I love all dogs but rescue dogs and their unique needs hold a special place in my heart. My own two sighthounds, including a Galgo rescued from a life of abuse in Spain, remind me every day that trust isn’t given, it’s built. With patience and understanding. And really good snacks.

Being a dog trainer is not a hobby, it’s a choice. It’s a response to what I keep seeing: misunderstood dogs, struggling owners, and too many relationships falling apart because communication has broken down. I want to be part of the solution. Not just for my own dogs, but for all the ones I see in city streets, parks, and shelters - pulling, barking, shutting down, or just trying their best to exist in a human world.

Dogs are not here to obey us. They’re not machines to be programmed or accessories to be shown off. They’re sentient, emotional beings and they deserve better than quick fixes and outdated training myths.

At Mindful Hounds, I offer bespoke 1:1 training designed to build calm, confident relationships that are grounded in communication and mutual respect, not control. I help people slow down, pay attention, and build real partnerships with their dogs. Whether you’re raising a puppy, welcoming a rescue, or just trying to reconnect with the dog you already have, I’m here to help you both thrive.

Let’s make life better, one mindful paw at a time.
